I’m not sure it’s really a surprise that Britain’s newest royal continues to take charge of her own life in ways most women who’ve married into the family haven’t – she’s American, after all, and an actress, not to mention a woman who spent the first three decades of her life taking care of herself and her own business.
That said, we’ve spotted some pretty clear signs that her take-charge personality extends to her relationship with Harry – and we thought we couldn’t love her more.
#12. She’s decorated their house in her own style.
No stuffiness for this couple – Meghan reportedly chose a cool, clean, California look for the interior of their home.
#11. Harry has her back.
That unprecedented statement he made asking the paparazzi to leave her alone proved who backed up who first.
#10. He defers to her in important matters.
While on a radio show in South London, Harry replied “she answers the questions!” when asked about gender equality, then followed up with “as males, we have to do our part or it’s not going to work.”
#9. Their body language proves it.
According to this expert, Meghan definitely wears the trousers.
#8. She took (charge of) the cake.
The tradition for royal bridal cakes is fruitcake, but Meghan fought for – and got – her choice of lemon elderflower.
#7. She’s visibly changed Harry.
No more partying all night for this prince – he must have been clear on what it would take to win the woman of his dreams right from the start.
#6. And he knew he would have to up his game.
In their engagement interview, he said “I never watched Suits, I never heard of Meghan before. I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her and there she was sitting there. I was like, ‘OK I really have to up my game here.'”
#5. An insider confirmed that Harry was the one to chase Meghan in the beginning.
No games for Harry this time around – he made his interest clear.
“They are the real deal. He definitely pursued her and besieged her with texts until she agreed to a date.”
#4. She gave a speech at the wedding.
So much for silent and demure – Meghan made no secret of the fact that she planned to be different right from the get-go.
#3. Harry fell for her in a flash.
In that same engagement interview, he confirmed that he was the one to fall first.
“The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was a confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned, everything was perfect. This beautiful woman literally tripped and fell into my life, and I fell into her life.”
#2. She turned him into a feminist.
Meghan confirmed this herself, but it’s no surprise – we know she wouldn’t have married him otherwise.
#1. A royal insider confirmed it.
“She is a strong, opinionated woman who has her own ideas about things, and that’s one of the things he loves about her.” Anonymously, of course.
Meghan Markle is goals, ladies!
