Bride Pranks Groom With Fake “Wedding Dress”

There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate a wedding, but one good strategy is for the special day to reflect the bride and groom’s personalities. So if the bride and groom are both notorious pranksters, well, their wedding is going to need at least one epic prank. And for recently married couple Erin and Ean Goldberg of Scottsdale, Arizona, that’s exactly what they did.

When Erin decided to put one over on her unsuspecting fiance, she knew that the “first look” was the perfect time to do it–this is the moment the bride and groom see each other in their wedding outfits for their first time. Erin’s plan was simple. Erin and Ean would stand back-to-back like for a traditional first look photoshoot, but when Ean turned around, he would see her in an outfit more suitable for binge-watching a British crime drama: comfy cat pajamas.

“I mess with him all the time and I thought it was a really good opportunity for me to prank him because I don’t dress up very often,” Erin told People. “We had been talking about this [wedding] dress and how excited he was to see me in the dress.” With their photographer Molly McElenney in on the gag, Erin set her trap:

And when Ean turned around and saw the outfit, he was definitely surprised.

“It went perfectly,” she says. “He was a little like, ‘Oh man, she got me.’ His reaction was just priceless. To see him just like laugh … [He was like], ‘Of course she did this! Why didn’t I expect anything different.’”

After the prank and the accompanying photoshoot were over, Erin slipped into a more traditional wedding dress and the two had a fantastic day. (Even though it would have been amazing if she’d gone through the whole day in cat PJ’s.)

So to all the recently engaged pranksters out there, maybe Erin and Ean will inspire you to pull a wedding day prank of your own–please share with us if you do! And if you’re engaged TO a prankster, let’s just say you’ve been warned.
