Bride Walks Down Aisle With Bouquet Of…Donuts

There’s no right or wrong way to plan a wedding. The traditions have stood the test of time for a reason–lots of people can’t imagine their wedding without them. On the other hand, whenever an ambitious bride or groom finds a way to make their big day unique and fun, it always makes us smile. But this particular bride’s wedding idea really takes the cake…or in this case, takes the donut. (Sorry, had to make that joke as per the Content Writers’ Code.)

Aussie newlywed Paige Kirk deiced to forego the traditional bouquets of flowers for herself and her bridesmaids, and instead opted for bouquets made entirely of delicious, delicious donuts.

Cue the Homer Simpson mouth-watering:

Even better, Kirk kept the idea a secret from her bridesmaids, and a videographer was on hand to document the reveal:

The donut bouquet idea was very much in the spirit of shaking things up. “Me and my husband Steven thought it would be different, fun and light hearted,” Kirk told the BBC.

Mission accomplished.

As for how the donut bouquets went over, Kirk says they were a smash hit. “Everyone thought it was hilarious, and the venue couldn’t believe it,” she said. “Brides should be a bit more relaxed and have fun!”

There was one part of this story that I found personally upsetting, however. Apparently, the bride and her bridesmaids had eaten enough treats earlier in the day that they saved the donuts for later. These donut bouquets looked so good  want to licked my computer screen.

The donut bouquets were prepared by Sydney-based company Dessert Boxes, which specializes in custom gift boxes full of delectables. But the company’s edible bouquets are becoming more and more popular, too.

Here’s hoping that edible bouquets really take off. And since we’re already making new wedding traditions, why not have edible bouquets for the groom, too. I will happily start that trend, if that’s what it takes.
