We’re all looking for cute, creative ways to document how quickly our little newborns turn into sitters and crawlers and walkers and then toddlers in the short span of a year. We use photo apps, stuffed elephants, or fruit and vegetable comparisons, but never before have I seen someone compare their precious bundle to a delicious sandwich.

Enter new father Brad Williams, who told Philly.com that the tradition began when he snapped a picture of his 2-week-old son, Lucas, next to his cheesesteak because they were about the same size. His family loved the comparison photo, and voila – a new schtick was born.

Williams continued taking the photos throughout the first year of his son’s life, posting on his website and Instagram¬†account so his family and friends could see how Lucas compared to Philly’s famous sandwich. He’s even mused on some similarities between his photography subjects:

“Wrapped up they are warm and cuddly, but once you unwrap them, expect a huge mess. Either way, both are worth it.”

It’s nice to see he’s kept a sense of humor through that first year of parenthood. It’s a doozy.
