Most parents get antsy for grandchildren by the time their own kids reach a “certain age.” My own parents had to wait a good long time, and I’m not sure they appreciated being Grandma and Grandpa to a small, demanding dog before they earned the title with a small, demanding human. They were game, though, and spent years dog sitting and the like. They put in their time.

Meghan Specksgoor’s dad, however, went way past just putting in the time when she left her rescue dog, Chance, with him when she had to leave town for NYC. At first, she wasn’t sure how the two would get on, but then the pictures and texts started to light up her phone – and to the delight of pretty much everyone on the Internet who has run across them.

Meghan adopted Chance after he’d been shot in the jaw. He required surgery and a plastic plate to repair the damage, but as you can see from his smile, he suffered no lasting effects.

Who is making him smile, you ask? Grandpa, that’s who.

And treats.

And snuggles, too.

I don’t know about you, but I sure hope these two get more chances to hang out one-on-one. And their own Instagram account.
