From 1991 until 2013, Zed Nelson photographed the same family on the same day, every year. He used the same backdrop and lighting each time, not wanting to take away from the focus of his project – watching this family change over time.
Its pretty amazing to see a child grow this way, and how the father remains almost the same through the years – a steady presence.
A little baby and a couple of tired parents
Mom and Dad are looking a bit more with it this year.
Kids really do change so fast.
Aww, someone’s a little grouchy!
Happiness in a photo. *heart eyes*
Those sandals totally date this photo.
Bare feet don’t care.
The kid’s becoming such a chubster!
I love the smiling ones.
And laughing is even better!
Mom and Dad are both stylin’ in this one!
They all look a little like they had other plans for the day…
Major growth spurt – look at those feet!
The boy is going through his “it’s not cool to smile for pictures” phase. Wonder how long that will last?
The lighter tops are a nice change.
Eep! Major hairstyle change for the kid…and when did Dad start to look like an older man?
He’s starting to look like a young man, and Mom’s style has totally evolved.
That haircut makes the son look so much older!
Is Mom wearing a bow? And, WOW I LOVE THE GLASSES.
They’ve all changed so much, but Mom the least, I think.
Seriously, just for fun – take a good look at this one and then pop back to the first photo. It’s pretty wild to see them change yearly this way.
