Here’s Why J. Lo Apologized to All of Her Mom Friends After Having a Baby

Saying “you can’t understand until you’re a parent” sounds condescending to someone who is still child-free, but the truth of the matter is…you really can’t understand being a parent until you are one.

Of course, you don’t understand that until after you’ve had kids, so we’ve all fallen into the trap of think we know what we’re talking about before gestating and then raising a little one. A fact that Jennifer Lopez confessed to when her 11-year-old twins, Emme and Max, interviewed the singer and actress in a video called “Twin Talk: AMA with Emme and Max.”

“You cannot imagine what it’s like to be a mom until you are a mom. I remember I used to give my friends who had kids advice all the time and they would look at me like I had three heads. And when I had you two, the minute I had you two, I literally apologized to all of my friends.”

She told them, “I’m so sorry I didn’t understand what it is to have a child and everything I ever said to you about raising kids, forget it and I’m sorry and that’s a true story.”

Lopez talked with TODAY about having kids later in life back in 2017.

“My children just made my life so much better. I’m forever grateful that…you know, I didn’t have kids until later so I almost thought that it was going to happen for me, so I’m very aware that I was blessed with that.”

The twins also asked their mom what her reaction was like upon learning there were two of them in there.

“I started laughing hysterically. You realize that the love you have for your kids is so deep that all the normal rules for other people don’t apply.”

Am a mom, can confirm.
