We want our kids to believe in magic for as long as humanly possible, so when they start to have questions about how, exactly, one man manages to get gifts to all of the children in the world (and how a fat man fits down their chimney) in a single night, it can break our hearts.
For teacher and mother Leslie Rush, the problem was simply one that needed a solution – one that retained the magic of Christmas and also promoted the spirit of the holidays for her kiddos.
The post about how she chose to handle the transition is ten years old, but it was discovered again recently and blew up, going viral in a way it couldn’t have when she first wrote it. I think it’s beautiful, and I’m tucking it away for when my wee one starts to have little glints of doubt in his big, brown eyes.
What do you think? How did you (or will you) handle this with your children?
For what it’s worth, I do hope my guy lasts longer than 6 or 7 years, but the idea will still apply.
