Postpartum life can be a shock the first time around – thanks to celebrities, many women think they’ll emerge from the hospital with glowing skin, a peacefully sleeping baby, and sporting their pre-pregnancy jeans. Me? I hardly slept the entire 3 days I was in the hospital, my boobs were already killing me, and it would be…almost a full year before any of my pre-baby clothes fit to a point that made me comfortable.
So many things on the internet can give us unrealistic expectations when it comes to children, parenting, motherhood, and our bodies that it’s nice to see women out there willing to share the real, nitty-gritty of one of life’s biggest changes.
Below are 10 that inspired me – I hope they do the same for you.
#10. Important reminder to give yourself – and your body – time.
#9. You get an ice pack, and you get an ice pack…
#8. One day the rolls will be on baby and not you…if that’s what you want.
#7. It’s not always traditionally pretty, but you can get to a place where it’s always worth it.
#6. “This is normal.”
#5. “Ultimately stronger.” Yes.
#4. Reminders to focus on what you have, and not what you’ve lost.
#3. The good news is, there are also plenty of highs.
#2. You won’t have sleep, or time to yourself, or clean clothes, or your old body. But you will have coffee.
#1. Here’s to the mesh panties that unite us all.
Thanks to @takebackpostpartum for encouraging the sharing, and the solidarity. I’m going to be there again in just a few days and appreciate the reminder that we all get through it!
