When 8-year-old August “Gussie” Bridge lost her favorite toy, a stuffed dog named Cookie Dough, at the Norfolk, Virginia Airport, the family was honest with her about the chances of recovering him. With a teary-eyed little girl in the backseat, her mom Kelly called the airport to report the missing toy.
To her grateful surprise, the dispatcher who took her call was also a mom, and understood the potential trauma of losing a cherished stuffed friend. She took the call seriously, wrote down Cookie Dough’s name and description, and set out to recover the sneaky little guy.
Not only did the Airport Police find Cookie Dough, but they compiled a book of the dog’s epic adventures while he waited to be reunited with Gussie – an adorable, thoughtful gift I’m sure the Bridges will treasure for a lifetime.
Cookie Dough went on patrol, and even became an honorary officer!
He also got some behind-the-scenes fun in at the airport…
And managed to get into a bit of trouble along the way (he is a dog, after all!)
The Airport Police took good care of him while he waited for his human to return.
And even though he made friends…
He was thrilled to be reunited with August at the end of a long day!
What a cute, sincere way to let a little girl – and her stuffed dog – know that no job is too small for adults who care.
