So many women (maybe all of them?) go into their first (or subsequent) births with certain expectations of how things will go. The thing about birth plans, though, is that they are just that – plans. Babies have a way of turning the best-laid ones on their head, and that starts even before they head into the real world.
It can be scary and disappointing, though, when things don’t go as you’d hoped, and that’s the subject of the artist behind How We Came To Be.
First off, this is how she imagined things would work out:
But then her blood pressure shot up and her placenta didn’t cooperate, which led to an emergency C-section at 36 weeks…
And she documented everything that followed.
But good news! In the end, everything was fine. Painful and without sleep, but fine.
