I know that, at our house, we have invited our robot overlords in for tea, so we have plenty of funny stories about the things that happened when our toddlers and preschoolers began trying to ask Alexa for things themselves.
If you have a similar device, I bet you have stories, too – and I also know you’re going to love these 13 hilarious instances other people are sharing below!
13. It’s almost like they’re messing with you.
I’m not ready to say that’s not the case, either.
Me: Hey Siri
Siri: *silence*
Me: HEY Siri!
Siri: *silence*
Me: Hey SIRI!!
Siri: *silence*
Me: 🎵hey Siri 🎶
Siri: *silence*
——————
Me: *talking to my kids and say anything with an “s” sound*Siri: How can I help?

12. That’s when you know they’ve bested you.
It won’t be the last time.
3yo: can you play with me?
Me: in a minute
3yo: Alexa, set timer for 1 minute
Fuuuuck

11. Longer than that.
She said, every single morning.
10. They’re not wrong.
About either observation, really.
7: (silently sneaks up behind me and taps me on the shoulder)
Me: Yes?
7: (whispers into my ear) Do not trust Siri. She doesn’t have eyes. (Walks away)Who needs scary movies when you can just have kids?

9. This is a classic own.
They had to be at least a little bit proud.
me, after scolding my kids: *walking away*
son: ALEXA, play the Imperial March
— Marcy G (@BunAndLeggings) November 1, 2019
8. I never thought of this.
It’s actually brilliant.
If I ever have any more kids I want to name them Alexa and Siri so whenever I call them, at least SOMEONE will answer.
— DragyneSlayre (@DragyneSlayre) February 2, 2020
7. It’s nice to have a co-parent.
Even if she can’t have a drink with you after the kids go to bed.
“Alexa, I mean… Mom”
– my kid, confusing me with the other caretaker in our house.
— MomTransparenting (@momtransparent1) January 27, 2020
6. Modern parenting, not at its finest.
At least they tried to do what you said.
Told my kids to play outside and they thought it was a band. Heard one of them ask Alexa to play songs by Outside.

5. When you put it that way…
Maybe we all need to rethink a few things.
Thanks, Alexa, I DID want to teach my kids that shouting commands in rapid succession is the way to get whatever they want in this world.
— Mommy Owl (@Mommy__Owl) December 31, 2016
4. It’s a learned behavior.
Alexa has her limits too, apparently.
Child: Hey mom-
Wife: OMG WHAT NOW
Child: NEVER MIND I'll ASK ALEXA. Hey Alexa-
Alexa: OMG WHAT NOW— Rodney Lacroix (@RodLacroix) February 1, 2019
3. A support system is key.
And she knows how to do math.
13 – “Mom how do you divide fractions?”
Me – *whispers*
“Siri, how do you divide fractions?”— Courtney (@Discourt) September 29, 2017
2. At least they didn’t ask you.
Again.
Sunday mornings are for sleeping in unless your child loudly asks Alexa how many days until Christmas at 5:45 AM.
— Simon Holland (@simoncholland) March 26, 2017
1. Someone is missing an opportunity here.
Or living a better life than I am.
My toddler has accidentally used Siri more than I have intentionally used Siri.
