As a mom in the thick of potty training, I can tell you that it’s not the highlight of my parenting journey (so far). It’s exhausting, it’s messy, and when it comes to toddlers, you don’t have much time between when they identify they need to pee and when it’s too late to get to a toilet, and I imagine this would go double (or triple) when you’re pregnant.

Georgia mom Brooke Johns is pregnant and she’s due any time. She’s also potty training her little boy, Cohen, and didn’t know what to do when he hollered from the backseat that he had to go pee.

She told CBS affiliate WRDW about the incident.

“I was like, ‘Well hold on!’ and he’s like ‘No! I’ve got to pee! I’ve got to really pee!”

Brooke spotted a service station and pulled over, her son shouting “Momma, I’m about to pee in my pants!” from the backseat.

Little Cohen couldn’t hold it, a fact Brooke realized when she saw a slight wet spot on the front of his pants.

“As soon as I snatched his pants down he peed and I had his hiney covered and helped him aim … so I know between my hand/arm/and wide behind and the door he was covered.”

After she’d buttoned him up and gotten him back into the car, they were approached by a Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy who issued Johns a ticket for ‘disorderly conduct.’

Seriously.

Johns posted about the incident on Facebook, describing how terrible the entire incident made both her and her son feel.

“When a cop humiliates you so bad over not trying to discourage your son with potty training. He literally had my son apologizing to me telling me he was sorry he didn’t mean to when I got back into the car. Like really how eoes a mother shake that. I feel like the shittiest mother ever right now.”

“I am a good citizen. I don’t break the law. Besides speeding tickets years ago and this is how I get treated over simply not discouraging my son for peeing all over himself or his car seat and having to ride in pee and clearly I am not in the proper state to grab ad run. It’s definitely not that I’m a lazy mother and didn’t want to take him into the store.”

“Any parent or grandparent would do this. He literally tried to hold it he had a slight wet spot on his undies. As soon as I snatched his pants down he peed and I had his hiney covered and helped aim his pee pee because he hasn’t learned to stand and aim so I know between my hand/arm/and wide behind and the door he was covered. Like hello I know there are sick perverts in this world I’m definitely not going to give them the opportunity to see my son!”

Johns has to go to court over the incident and could also face jail time.

Talk about crazy – what a ridiculous abuse of power. I hope the judge dresses down the officer who thought this scenario required any action at all!
