The decision to have kids or not is an intensely personal one. They change everything from the moment they’re conceived, and no, your life will never be the same.

They’re wonderful and funny, and they’re exhausting and stressful, and a million things in between – in short, they affect your life in myriad ways and people should absolutely not have them if they don’t want them.

People, unfortunately, don’t seem to understand the nature of the decision. Whether they know a person or not, whether their opinion is that you have too many kids or not enough kids, they think it’s their business to share their opinion. And while this is annoying when it’s a stranger, if can be downright hurtful when it’s your family.

This woman, in her later 30s, has decided that children are not for her. She enjoys her lifestyle, has a boyfriend who feels the same way, and is secure in her choices…but her family can’t respect it.

She stopped hanging out with them for awhile, but was lured back by a 3yo’s birthday party and the promise that nothing would be said about her lifestyle choices.

But of course, her mother couldn’t resist a rib, and her sister didn’t stand up for her (again).

OP snapped, telling her siblings that there was no way to know whether or not they would regret their decision to have kids one day, and now everyone is acting like she’s the monster.

The commenters are, unsurprisingly, mostly on this woman’s side.

Some people came in expecting to say that ESH (Everyone Sucks Here), but after hearing how OP has tried over and over to be respectful but firm, agrees that she’s NTA (Not The A**hole).

Other people agree that it’s stupid and condescending to believe that another person will change their mind, or somehow being around children will make them love and want them (so not true!).

There are also people who have kids and agree that everyone’s choice should be their own – so not everyone is a jerk.

Honestly, everyone should be sick of this crap. No one else’s life is your business – say it with me!

This person pointed out that you can not be an a**hole but still be wrong, but idk. Her family had it coming if you ask me.

Do you disagree with any of these people?

If you do, I’d love to hear your reasons in the comments!
