If there’s one thing I’ve found to be true about parenting in the three-plus years I’ve been doing it, it’s that kids can be real jerks. They’re also inherently distrustful, or decide early on who knows all of the answers and who doesn’t.
For instance, in our house, Alexa is far more trustworthy than either of our 3-year-old’s parents. A robot knows more than I do (which, fair, but also I can tell if it’s raining just as well as she can, kid!).
This holds true even if you’re famous and rich and amazing, as the Rock is demonstrating as he tries and fails to convince his 2yo daughter, Tiana, that he is the voice of Maui in Disney’s hit movie Moana.
He’s been working on her for several months, while they’ve been stuck at home together, and it’s clear she loves watching the song on the computer and hearing her dad sing along.
She’s failing to make the connection that he’s actually the voice of Maui in the movie, though, and she’s not taking his word for it, either.
“Now do you believe Daddy is Maui?”
“No.”
And that’s it, friends. No convincing her.
But like every good two-year-old out there, she definitely wants him to do it again. And again and again to infinity.
“And for the 937th time today she wants daddy to sing along with Maui. She has no idea we’re the same person. And I have no idea what day it is anymore, but I am sure it’s one that ends with Y. To all the mama and papa bears out there going thru it – we understand. 24 hour parenting. Get your sleep and cocktails when you can.”
Amen. The Rock and his adorable family prove that kids and parents are the same everywhere, and we’re all getting through this thing one day at a time.
Fist bump.
But not too hard, if you’re going at it with The Rock.
