Kids are funny creatures. They don’t know a whole lot about the world, but in some ways, they’re wiser than the adults around them.

Not in these ways, though, because there are definitely some totally weird and silly things all kids do for some odd reason – and chances are, you did each of these, too.

11. Draw on their hands… and everywhere else.

Boredom is real, my friends, and even if electronics make that less of an issue for kids these days, there’s still school.

And grounding.

If you’ve got a pen and your own skin, there’s no need to sit and think about what you’ve done!

10. Try to change traffic lights with their minds.

Maybe we saw Escape to Witch Mountain or Harry Potter just too many times, but there is not one single bored kid who did not do their best to get their car to the destination faster.

Do kids still do this now that they have electronics in the car? I bet so.

9. Climb up the slide.

As parents, we are constantly reminding our kids they are in the way and there is a proper way to ride a slide…and that it’s going down and not up.

As kids, we climbed those slide mountains with the best of them.

8. Peel the stickers off a Rubik’s Cube.

And then stick them all back on to make it look like you solved the dang thing.

I’m sorry to say that I think your friends were onto you…because they all did it, too.

7. Play ‘Red Rover.’

This game is fun for kids for exactly two reasons – you get to find out how popular you are, and you get to try to maim and injure your friends for fun.

Oh, and maybe you’d get to hold hands with your crush. Swoon!

6. Turn Bugles into fingernails.

It wasn’t just messing around, either – it was a serious skill if you could get them on all ten of your fingers without any of them breaking.

Then you would eat them all off and start again.

5. Practice their autograph.

Obviously we’re all going to be famous one day. Or at least end up, like, an author who needs to sign books.

I guess it all worked out, though. We can sign our mortgage paperwork with a flourish now.

4. Make those fold-up fortune tellers.

If you wanted to know who you were going to marry, where you would live, or what career you would have, all you had to do was choose a number, color, and number to reveal your future!

Yes, kids still make these, but they also spend way too much time flipping water bottles, too.

3. Race raindrops down the window.

You could stare out the window pretending to be in some sad, introspective music video, or you could see if you beat the raindrops to the bottom.

Or, if it was a really long car ride, you might have time for both.

2. Repeatedly ask ‘why’ when someone answered a question.

This is the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friend…and now that I am a proud parent myself, I can confirm this is a spontaneous occurrence around the age of 3.

So. Amusing.

1. Cover their hands with Elmer’s glue.

Just so you could peel it off again, and y’all…peeling that sh%t off in one single piece might still be one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done.

Why do we do these things? Because we’re human?
