Motherhood is hard, and let me tell you, the transition from who you were before you got pregnant to the woman you see in the mirror a few weeks after giving birth for the first time is a rough one. Your identity, your ability to take time for yourself, a lack of sleep and bodily autonomy…it’s a lot to deal with, and that’s not even taking into account all of the physical changes you’ve gone through as well.
It can take months (years) to feel like a semblance of the person you were, or even the person you’re going to become that’s hopefully a mother, wife, and an individual.
None of which this guy apparently took into account when he got sad that his wife, 7 months postpartum, doesn’t “dress up” for him anymore.
He still thinks she’s sexy, she just doesn’t dress that way and he’s sad.
SO SAD.
Also, a reminder: we’re in a pandemic. Who even is dressing up and doing their makeup at home, even if they aren’t coping for the first time with the transition to motherhood?
He’s a reasonable man, though, and doesn’t expect her to dress up for him every day – just a couple of days a week.
She, however, was not into his suggestions or the conversation in general, but he’s still sad about her clothes.
So, he’s asking the internet whether or not he’s an a$shole for even bringing it up.
Answer?
Most people say yes.
More than one person pointed out that she’s only 7 months postpartum, and might still be nursing.
Pretty nursing bras are a curse from hell.
This mom weighed in, saying it took her about 18 months to even feel like attempting “normal” again.
That’s about right in my experience, too.
Mostly, people pointed out that this guy is just out looking for trouble.
Your wife is at home, with a new baby, in a world that’s flipped upside down. Maybe cut her a break and think about someone other than yourself for a minute?
