Is This Mom Wrong for Thinking It’s Not a Teacher’s Place to Tell Her Kid Life Isn’t Fair?

If there’s one adage about life that seems to be 100% true for 99.9% of people (because there are always those few that seem to be truly charmed), it’s that life just isn’t fair.

The people we think should be rewarded get cancer, and the jerks we’d like to see fail get massive book deals (just me?), and there are a million, smaller daily examples in between, too.

Everyone learns the hard truth at some point in their lives, but this mom thinks that when the human in question in eight and having a hard year (aren’t we all), that it’s not really the teacher’s job to dismiss their feelings with “life isn’t fair.”

Her daughter (8) had just switched to remote learning full time, and logged onto her new tablet, in a system she hadn’t been trained to navigate, to find she had over 100 assignments due in the first week.

She and her mother worked all day but still weren’t able to keep pace.

When the teacher asked everyone how it was going, and the girl replied that she felt overwhelmed, the teacher snapped “well, life isn’t fair” and moved on.

Even though the mother stood up for her daughter, and the teacher claimed it came out harsher than intended, OP logged her daughter off and sent an email to the school about the incident.

Her husband thinks she’s being a Karen, but she thinks she’s just standing up for her daughter against a teacher who should have retired.

What do you say? Is she the a$shole?

The people of Reddit say absolutely not.

They actually don’t think anyone could feel differently.

We all need a break, not whatever this school district is doing.

And yeah, mocking kids who trust you is never ok.

Others thought she didn’t go far enough.

What do you think?

I definitely don’t think she was wrong at all, but it’s true that the teacher is probably having a hard time, too.

That said, adults shouldn’t be taking their frustrations out on the kiddos, right?

I hope we can all agree on that!
